Work out what a gutter clean should cost on your home before you call anyone. Built on our 2026 Rockford price book — the same numbers we quote from, not a national average.
Enter your roofline below. The calculator returns the band we would quote in, for a full hand-clean: gutters emptied by hand, every downspout flushed and tested, debris bagged and taken away, and before-and-after photos texted to you.
An estimate, not a quote. We confirm a flat written figure from photos of the house — and that written figure is what you pay. Never hourly, no add-ons.
Gutter runs follow the roofline, not the walls, so the quick way is to take the footprint of the house and add the two sides together twice. A 40 ft by 28 ft rectangle is roughly 136 linear feet before you add a garage or a porch return.
| Rockford house type | Typical footprint | Linear feet |
|---|---|---|
| Post-war ranch, no garage | 1,000–1,200 sq ft | 120–145 ft |
| Ranch or split-level with attached garage | 1,200–1,600 sq ft | 130–170 ft |
| Two-storey colonial | 1,800–2,200 sq ft | 170–200 ft |
| Larger two-storey with wings or dormers | 2,400 sq ft + | 200–260 ft |
Complex rooflines cost more per foot than the numbers above suggest, because valleys, dormers and multiple roof planes each need their own ladder set. If your roof has more than four planes, take the upper end of the band.
The jump from single storey to two storey is the single biggest factor — not because the gutter is longer, but because the ladder work slows down and the safety setup changes. A two-storey run costs roughly 20–25% more per foot than the same length at single-storey height.
Years of packed debris is a different task from a seasonal clear. Compacted silt has to be broken up and lifted out rather than scooped, downspouts are usually blocked solid rather than slow, and it is common to find seedlings rooted in the trough. Budget around 45% more for a genuine first-time cleanout.
Every guard system still needs the trough cleared eventually — micro-mesh sheds leaves but passes shingle grit and pollen, and reverse-curve collects needles at the nose. The panels have to come off and go back on, which adds about 25%. Worth knowing before you buy: see how the guard types compare.
One clean a year is enough on an open lot. Two is standard across most of Rockford. Three is realistic if you back onto Rock Cut State Park or sit under mature silver maples and cottonwoods along the Rock River corridor — the seed fall in spring is as heavy as the leaf fall in autumn.
Most single-storey Rockford homes run $125–$185 for a full hand-clean with downspouts flushed and photos. Two-storey homes run $165–$245. A first-time or heavily packed cleanout runs $185–$295. The calculator above splits those bands out by your actual linear feet.
A 1,200–1,600 sq ft single-storey ranch is usually 130–170 linear feet. A 2,000–2,400 sq ft two-storey is usually 180–220. If the roof is a simple rectangle, the quick estimate is twice the length plus twice the width of the footprint.
Yes, roughly 25% more. Micro-mesh and reverse-curve systems have to be unclipped or unscrewed, the trough cleared, and the panels refitted and re-secured. Screen and foam inserts add less. The calculator applies the guard uplift when you tick the box.
No. It is an estimate band from our 2026 Rockford price book. We confirm a flat written figure after seeing photos of the house, and that written figure is what you pay — never hourly, no surprise add-ons.
